Year 1 have been learning about shapes in math this week. They have been discussing the properties of both 2D and 3D shapes and sorting them into groups depending on various different things such as size, colour, number of corners and sides. For 3D shapes they have used the vocabulary of faces, edges and vertices. In the lesson on Thursday they enjoyed making different patterns of their own with coloured shapes. Most children are confident naming the shapes but it would be useful for them to be able to identify them in everyday objects around the home and when they are outside.
In topic we have continued to learn about dinosaurs, which the children have loved. They particularly enjoyed finding out their own information from the books and worksheets. They are using key vocabulary such as 'Triassic', 'Jurassic' and 'Cretaceous' as well as 'palaeontologists'. We continue to be very impressed at their expanding vocabulary and passport projects that continue to come in.
