This week in Year 5, the children explored how shadows are created as part of their Science topic - Earth and Beyond. The children explored what a shadow is and how a shadow changes shape and length according to the Sun's position in the sky. The next step was to investigate what a sundial is and how it works. The children were able to explain how the sun casts a shadow on the sundial and depending on the time of day which allowed people to tell the time. Finally, the children made their own sundials and tested them outside. Luckily the morning's rain stopped and the sun came out just in time for the children to test their sundials!
