This week in Reception, we have started our first focus text, ‘The Toy’s Party’. The children have become familiar with the ORT characters that are in the story, which are also in our reading scheme. In the story, Kipper makes a cake. However, it is not an ordinary cake and he decides to put lots of unusual ingredients in!
Linking with our Literacy text, we have also been learning about our 5 senses within our topic sessions. On Wednesday we focused on taste. The children enjoyed making Kipper’s cake from the story and tasting the ingredients which were cornflakes, jam, sugar, milk, baked beans and tomato sauce! We enhanced our vocabulary by seeing what interesting words we could come up with to describe the ingredients. A favourite was crunchy, for the cornflakes and sticky for the jam!
When the children have their first full day in reception, we take their photo in our ‘first day’ frame! This is a lovely memory to look back on that goes into their topic books.
