Year 1 are now very confident in their Phonics sounds using the RWI programme. In Their set classes, they are able to focus on the sounds they need and read books according to their levels. Most classes are working on “Speed Reading” Where they work on reading the book as fast as they can. They are all working very well on this and can read the words very fast. Many children are watching the RWI videos posted on Class Dojo; to support their reading fluency.
This week the spelling trophy was shared by Oak and Redwood well done to all. The trophy is awarded to the class with most children achieving 100%.
This week in maths, in preparation for the end of Summer the children have been revising all the units covered in Year 1. Congratulations to Oak class won: they won Rock Star Times Tables Challenge. This trophy is awarded to the class with the highest number of regular participants.
The children are enjoying learning about Pompeii in geography this term. This week we have looked at the human features of Pompeii. E.g. forum, villa, roads and trade.
In Science, we have continued to focus on the seasons of the year. The children have thought about the weather we experience in the U.K. and linked it to the seasons.
It has been a fun week this week and the children were engaged and enthusiastic about all the different areas of learning. The teachers are so pleased with all your hard work, Year 1s!
