Science took centre stage this week in Year 6 as the children started their new physics topic about light in our lesson on Wednesday afternoon. This half term, we will be investigating whether or not it is possible for beam of light to travel around corners. There was some lively discussion and debate about the issue, especially as quite a few of the pupils pointed out (quite rightly!) that light travels in straight lines. We then looked at how mirrors can affect how light travels by plunging the entire classroom into darkness (or as close to darkness as possible at 2 o’clock in the afternoon) and shining torches into a mirror to see where it would reflect light in the room. It was a brilliant way to start our new topic and the children can’t wait to carry out their own experiment!
