This term, the Year 1 children have been working collaboratively, using good manners, showing respect to others and sharing on different tasks. This week, the children had a picture which they looked at for 30 seconds and studied the picture carefully. Then they took turns to talk about it with their partners. They asked questions like “What is the picture about?” and “What do you like about the picture?”
In Phonics, we have been learning a new sound every day. The children have been using “Fred Talk” which means sounding out each sound in the word.
In Maths, the children have started to count on from 10 to make numbers up to twenty,
e.g. 10 + 3 = 13. They used Dienes blocks and place value charts to help them work out how many tens there were and how many ones, e.g. 1 ten and 3 ones is 13.
In Science, the children completed a Science assessment which tested their knowledge of different objects and the materials they’re made of. They have also shown that they have learned meanings of the words “transparent” and “waterproof”.
This week in Geography, the children enjoyed being involved in a quiz using their knowledge of our local area. They answered questions like “Where is our school?” and “Is a river a physical feature or human feature”?
Well done Year ones this term! We all look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
