This week in Reception the children have been finding out about Christmas. They looked at pictures and videos. They also sang carols and shared their own personal experiences about celebrating Christmas with their families. A wide range of indoor and outdoor activities were provided for the children to engage in. The two most popular activities this week were to decorate the Christmas tree and wrap presents to go under the tree.
To consolidate their knowledge on 3D shapes the children described the shapes of their presents using mathematical language.
In Literacy the children retold a story by using pictures. They also enjoyed writing Christmas cards to their class friends and families and especially writing a letter to Santa.
In Numeracy the children were introduced to an advent calendar. In their small groups the children had to order numbers on a large advent calendar, extending their number concept beyond 20.
